Belgium is also introducing tolls for lorries. From 1st April 2016 a fee will be charged for the use of roads in its three regions by both national and foreign lorries weighing more than 3.5 tonnes. The price of the toll will range between 12 cts. and 20 cts. per kilometre depending on the tonnage of the vehicle and its environmental category.
Beforehand, the transporter must install the On-Board Unit (OBU) which registers its movement on the Belgium road network using satellite navigation. The toll, which ranges between 12 cts and 20 cts per kilometre travelled, will be calculated using the following parameters:
- Type of road (motorway, regional or local road).
- Kilometres travelled.
- Weight of the lorry.
- Euro environmental category of the vehicle.
